Hardly any other region in the world arouses as many longings as the Caribbean. Christopher Columbus named the island La Isla Española and started sugar cane cultivation firstly in Hispaniola.

Barbados was the world's largest sugar producer as early as the 17th century – Mount Gay, the world oldest rum distellery is evidence of the long rum tradition in Barbados.

And around 1665 in Jamaica, members of the Royal Navy received a rum ration at lunchtime, still 350 - 700 ml per day with over 57% vol.!!!
